The already-large market for medical devices in the United States is growing at an increasingly steady rate. In this course, you will learn how to design medical devices that comply with all federal standards using Fusion 360. Software required: Fusion 360.
While other industries continue to decline, the market for medical devices in the United States continues to steadily grow. Because of this, it's important than ever to have the skills to get jobs in the medical device field. This course, Fusion 360 - Biomedical Design, will cover intermediate to advanced Fusion 360 tools that will allow designers to create the complex shapes required in medical device design. First you will learn of the FDA's "Innovation Pathway" that is used to approve medical devices. Then, you will learn about advanced organic shapes, hybrid modeling, FEA simulation, and prototyping. Finally, you will learn best practices in terms of CAD modeling and documentation that will streamline the entire process when working with organic geometry. Upon completion of this course, you will have the experience that medical device companies are looking for in their employees, and the skills needed to execute on the job. Software required: Fusion 360.

Course Overview Hi. I'm Chris Castle with SolidBox. SolidBox is an engineering firm and IT services company that supports SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, and Mastercam users all across North America. We are also an official partner to SolidWorks Corporation, Autodesk, and Mastercam. As a registered professional engineer, and SolidWorks elite applications engineer I've had the pleasure of working with 3D CAD software to solve complex problems in the aviation, medical device, oil and gas, and consumer products industries for the last 18 years. Our company specializes in project based training, both onsite and online, and we love what we do, so it's my pleasure to show you almost everything you need to know to design successful and profitable biomedical products in Fusion 360. The market for medical devices in the United States is currently $113 billion and it's growing at a steady rate. While other industries continue to decline it's more important than ever to have the skills to get jobs in the medical device world. In this course we will start with the FDA approval process, and the different pathways that products must go through before they can be sold within the United States. We will focus on class 2 devices, which are practical for most designers to work on. As a practical exercise we will develop a femoral hip stem and ball joint implant using all the tools available within Autodesk Fusion 360. We will cover advanced organic shapes, hybrid modeling, FEA simulation, the prototype process, and finally, how to properly document your design process, so the approval process is as efficient as possible. At the end of this course you will have a solid understanding of the FDA approval process for medical devices, and you will experience firsthand how a medical device is designed, analyzed, prototyped, and documented, and even if you never intend to design medical devices or go through the FDA approval process you will learn valuable skills that will improve how you model complex shapes while maintaining critical parametric control of your models. All these skills will add tremendous experience to your resume. Come and join us on this educational journey.
